Richmond, Virginia, often called RVA by the locals, is a spectacular city with a long list of accolades and recognitions. For example, PETA has named it one of the top ten vegan-friendly cities, CNBC called it one of the top twenty places to start a business, ApartmentGuide named it one of the top ten best cities in the nation for art lovers, Travel + Leisure listed it as number three on their list of best places in the world to travel, and similarly, Forbes named it one of the top ten U.S. cities to visit and New York Times named it one of the fifty-two best places to visit in the world. Clearly, it is a true live, work, and play city and has much to offer prospective homebuyers. Richmond also encompasses several very different yet equally fabulous neighborhoods from which to choose. For example, the Carver neighborhood in Richmond is a historic community listed on the National Register of Historic Places, boasting a very diverse population and proximity to VCU. In contrast, Carytown, located at the southern end of the Museum District along Cary Street, consists of an urban retail district catering to diverse populations. It is home to the historic Byrd Theatre and a multitude of eclectic restaurants and boutique stores. One of the oldest intact residential neighborhoods in Richmond is Church Hill. Church Hill encompasses the Chimborazo Medical Museum, the historic St. John’s Church, and critically acclaimed restaurants, and it overlooks downtown. The historic Fan neighborhood borders the west side of the VCU campus and consists of eighty-five blocks in a fan shape encompassing many shops and restaurants.

In the heart of downtown Richmond is Jackson Ward which encompasses the Maggie L. Walker museum and several galleries and hosts First Fridays, the city’s monthly art walk. And south of downtown Richmond is the residential and industrial neighborhood of Manchester, which is home to the sixty-foot Manchester Wall, a local brewery, and several art galleries as well. North of Carytown and west of the Fan district is the Museum District which is anchored by a row of museums stretching across six blocks on the west side of Boulevard. In addition to museums, the neighborhood encompasses several charming boutiques and small restaurants. And these are only a few of the fabulous neighborhoods in Richmond. Others include Near West End, Northside, Southampton, Oregon Hill, Scott’s Addition, Shockoe Slip, Byrd Park, Union Hill, Shockoe Bottom, Westover Hills, and Woodland Heights.
